Educational App Critique: Math Blasters Hyper Blast

According to the website, Math blaster is an online, adventure packed game that involves wacky aliens, high-tech gadgets and math! The format is set up as an arcade style game where kids race through high speed missions with the help from the main characters of the program. They Will get the chance to join an Intergalactic Space Patrol which is an elite team of Blasters who are sworn to explore and protect the galaxy and deepest black holes of the universe. Cadets use their math skills to travel to exotic new planets, discover bizarre alien races and face extraordinary challenges.

Math blaster has both an online game version and also an app, and is a tried and true program. It has been used for years as an effective method of teaching basic skills and also reaching onto other more advanced math concepts. They ensure safety for the kids with over 25 years of experience and over 10 million parents and teachers accessing their program. The names are preprogrammed and there are other built-in safety features that are designed to protect students and ensure personal information is not being shared with others. There are also parental controls that give parents the power to select perfect level of interaction for their child.

Along with the games for kids there is also a teacher portal that allows teachers to address NCTM standards in their classroom. Depending on the age of the child, they will be given math challenges appropriate for their curricular learning. This is not a free program, and teachers would pay based on the number of children they have in their classroom / using the program.
