This week I have been thinking about the use of an Ipad in the classroom. At the school I work at there are mixed reviews and some controversy regarding the use of Ipads in the classroom. I personally do not have an Ipad and cannot rave about its abilities from my own experience, but from watching this video on youTube:
I cannot imagine a more useful tool for my classroom especially for those learners who are visual, oral or tactile. I try to ensure my lessons are interactive and could appeal to all learning styles, however it is not always possible. To have even a few Ipads in the classroom could completely change the way you teach.
The website I was reading:
http://blogs.computerworld.com/19167/apples_school_box_plan_to_innovate_education
took me to a video for School Box
Although this is not an apple product in its entirety, the idea is so amazing. I had the opportunity to spend some time in a rural school in China a few years back and looking at their supplies and textbooks I was shocked. They truly had no resources that were useful for them, and the "English teacher" didn't even speak English. A product such as the School Box could completely revolutionize rural education and give the children the tools they need by simply introducing one tool into their classroom.
I would like to spend more time considering and researching the benefits of the Ipad in the classroom. With that said I would also like to review and consider the criticisms that exist for the Ipad in the classroom. I will make this the focus of my next Current Events posting.
