Educational App Critique: BrainPOP

BrainPOP the app is designed after the webpage BrainPOP which is a fantastic resource for students, teachers and parents. Although the website does require you to pay for its use, the quality and vastness of the website is outstanding. The main characters Tim (a smart and quirky boy) and Moby (a robot that makes beeping noises) are featured over 750+ short videos that explain a topic. This site has been active for over a decade and featured in over 4000 reviews and articles. It is a very successful way to communicate a concept as the videos are engaging and often quite funny. Their catch phrase "The more you know, the more you know" rings true with students who will often watch a variety of videos just for their own personal learning.

This app is currently free but can be upgraded for $1.99 a month for further access and $6.99 a month for all access. The free version gives a video a day along with a short quiz that follows. The topics cover Science, Math, Social Studies, English, Engineering & Tech, Arts & Music, and health.

This app receives 4.5 stars and hundreds of glowing testimonies.
